Flood
Information
|
| Below: The road to D-Dock and the gas dock as of Sunday the 15th of June 2008. As you can see, the water is quite high, and access to D-Dock and the gas dock requires traveling through water. To get to both C and D Dock requires walking UP the access ramps. Water is expected to remain close to current levels as the flood waters from Wisconsin and northern Iowa make their way to and down the Mississippi River. The south harbor is closed to traffic because the water is still over the road and it is over the road to the gas dock also. The launch ramp at A Dock is also too covered up for use. We expect it to go down some in the next day but have heard there is more on the way. I will e-mail you on Thursday to let you know the status of the harbor. If you are able to get out here, just keep in mind that the harbor has fast water now, so moms and dads make sure your kids are safe. It was reported in the Savanna Journal that the Savanna/Sabula bridge will be down to one lane beginning 06-16-08 thru the middle of July. They are saying now that the bridge will close totally "sometime in early August until mid September". However they are not working on it yet and we are just hoping that they hold off closing it until after August 2nd. Thank you for choosing to be part of Island City Harbor - we do appreciate you. |

To the Right: The Sabula Rail Road Bridge on June 15, 2008. As you can see the river is pretty high. In the picture you can see two boards above the water on the guard closest to you... under normal conditions, there are between 8 and 9 boards visible. Compared to the flood of 2001, there is only about 2 feet of difference (lower thankfully!). Click on the picture for a larger picture. |
